A European network of research infrastructures for CO₂ transport and storage: the ENCASE project.

Encase

ENCASE – A European Network of Research Infrastructures for CO2 Transport and Injection is a 42-month project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon program.
DURATION: January 1, 2023 – June 30, 2026

Clust-ER Greentech is a partner in ENCASE, a European project that brings together research, operators, manufacturers, academia and SMEs involved in CO₂ capture and storage to increase the competitiveness of the industry.

The goal of ENCASE is to help increase the safety of CO₂ transport and storage in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly manner.
ENCASE aims to enhance the consortium’s 7 world-leading CCS research infrastructures (RIs) with scientific and innovative tools to form the backbone of CCS technology research and development.

During the project, efforts will be made to increase the competitiveness of these European RIs through collaboration with CCS infrastructure operators, service companies, academia and SMEs. The research infrastructure will also be available to industry for prototyping new equipment and technologies. New pumping designs, measurement technologies and simulation tools for monitoring, controlling and predicting CO₂ flows with impurities will be tested.

The high-quality data produced in ENCASE will increase the level of knowledge in industry and academia, thus contributing to the development of innovative companies and training the future workforce for the CCS industry. To better integrate RIs into local communities and generate community impact, social innovation workshops and co-creation initiatives will also be developed, involving diverse stakeholders.

Role of Clust-ER Greentech

Clust-ER Greentech will be engaged mainly in WPs 6 and 7, together with the Italian partners Leap (Clust-ER member), Politecnico di Milano and Alpha Consult. In particular, we will support the partnership on tasks related to communication and dissemination actions of the project and social integration of the involved research centers.

20 partners from 6 Countries

The ENCASE Consortium has a multidisciplinary skill set. Academia, CCS infrastructure operators, RI owners, technology end users, and social and environmental science stakeholders will work together to maximize the impact of innovation.
